ACOUSTIC DESIGN

Though not intentional, Karp began his career as an acoustical design specialist by first honing and developing his skills as a musician.  Music has always come as second nature to Karp and he can't remember a time not having a deep love for playing, rehearsing, performing, creating, recording & producing music.  To support his musical habit, he began working in the "karpentry" trade, building and designing trade show exhibits and custom cabinetry, before moving on to set design for movies, tv shows and theaters.

 

With over 30 years experience in both trades, it's no wonder the often meticulous and precision driven artistry comes as second nature to him.  As passions often do...Karp's two talents as a "karpenter" and as an audio enthusiast, melded together to organically form one of Chicago-land's leading acoustic and architectural design studios....KARP DESIGNS.

 

As an acoustical designer, Karp stays true to the philosophies and concepts of the trade, but first and foremost wants his clients to feel comfortable, relaxed and inspired in their spaces.  As a designer and artist, he is always pushing the boundaries & capabilities of the craft.  His rooms sound as good as they look & feel.

 

As a "karpenter", Karp takes an innovative approach to his craft. Using unique materials and custom fabricating everything by hand, he approaches every project as if it were a masterpiece. His intricate and detailed inlay work combining mixed medias puts a unique twist on his furniture to create stunning works and one of a kind pieces.  Karp takes his clients visions & ideas and brings them to fruition.  

 

He has created spaces to fit his clients personalities which includes everything from 1920's Art Deco, to Middle Eastern/Moroccan, to Victorian Era Steampunk, to a Futuristic Tron room, to a rock-band themed theater, and everything in between!  

 

Karp is the proud owner of a beautiful black Pit-Bull/Great Dane named Vader.
